Let's face it – you don't get more salt-of-the-earth than the humble Aussie farmer. The lifeblood of the country, these hard-working legends keep the wheels turning and fresh produce on our tables year-round.
The thought of farm life may seem like the perfect scenario to some, escaping the 9-5, living on a vast property, marching to the beat of your own drum – however, it's not always as blissful as it might seem. Long days, social isolation, back-breaking labour, and hefty overheads – these guys and gals really do it tough! The rising occurrence of devastating natural disasters such as drought, floods, and bushfires can alter a farmer's livelihood in the blink of an eye.
The aftermath of natural disasters is catastrophic. Loss of crops, livestock, and equipment can ultimately result in loss of income and property. A 2021 study determined that the suicide rate of farmers is 59% higher than non-farmers and that approximately 1 farmer will take their own life every 10 days. These gut-wrenching statistics speak for themselves and can't be ignored any longer.
Here at Ringers Western, we have a HUGE APPRECIATION for the humble farmer. We're sure that you do too! That's why we've teamed up with the incredible charity Farm Angels in support of Flanno for a Farmer. The Farm Angels are aiming to raise $500,000 to provide direct assistance to farmers in need. These selfless, amazing angels provide support in the form of financial aid, food, and care packages as well as emotional assistance to thousands of farmers affected by natural disasters in over 1300 communities across Australia.
The Farm Angels are aiming to have ONE MILLION AUSSIES wearing their finest flanno on the 23rd of August to show their support.
How YOU can get Involved
It's easy to show your favourite Aussies some support – make a donation, grab yourself a flanno, and make a difference!
Donations can be made via the Farm Angels website. This can either be a self-donation or can be done as a fundraiser with the help of sponsors.
Up until the 31st of August, $5 from every flanno purchased online at www.ringerswestern.com or the Ringers Western flagship store in Helensvale will be directly donated to the Farm Angels charity.
Alternatively, donations can be added to your cart – these are available in multiple denominations, starting from $2.
